I’m indebted to blogs like Granny Standing for Truth, FireDog Lake, Salon (Glenn Greenwald), and 3 Chics Politico for breaking down the lies of various candidates and government officials on all sides of the aisle. If, indeed, there are sides.
But today I have to acknowledge that I’m finding a world saturated with lies, half truths, and obfuscations very difficult to deal with. The lies have gotten so bold and so outrageous and there is so little fall out from them that I often feel stunned into silence. Basically, we have to assume that much of what we hear, most of the time, from all quarters are lies or truth variants. Critical engagement is one thing. But keeping this deconstructionist mode up is something else entirely.
Ethical relativism had its good points but I’m all for bringing back some good old fashioned righteousness (not the self- variety).
Maybe this is what the decline of Rome and Dahomey felt like. Watching a slow motion collapse in the making and feeling powerless to alter its course. Turns out that the path to destruction is paved with falsehoods after all.
