Derrick Bell, Esq.

Above, Derrick Bell taking “a voluntary unpaid leave of absence [from Harvard Law School] to protest the lack of tenured minority women professors.”

Brilliant, principled, committed and kind. A pioneer of critical race theory, a really consequential, useful body of work. Derrick Bell was a brave figure for the post civil rights era.

He was a powerful example of how we can be strong without being obnoxious or loud. He had a sense of humor but wasn’t sarcastic. And his love and respect for women makes me cry in these b!@#&, s(*#, h* days.

He reminds me of my dad.
