Internet and mobile communication have gone almost completely dark in Egypt as widespread protests against the government rage.
The protestors are numbered in the 10s of thousands. While President Mubarak has announced that he is replacing his cabinet, calls for his resignation continue.
Just like we got Vietnam and communism wrong, perhaps we’re getting the Middle East wrong. It might be less about Islam and more about financial and social marginalization. There are certainly similar themes between Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen, all of which are experiencing disturbances.
