When Photo Ops Are No Longer Enuf …

If you live in Los Angeles County, please consider signing the “Maintain the Integrity of the Arts Instructional Programs of LAUSD” an online petition at:

We all know kids who only stayed in school and graduated because of band, orchestra, dance, art or drama club.  If we don’t holler and scream, these programs will simply go away. And make no mistake who we’re fighting for.  Many middle class parents have resources for supplemental enrichment programs, contacts to solicit corporate donations, the sophistication and confidence for effective advocacy. Working class and poor parents often do not.

California’s long faded prosperity wasn’t based on sunshine, Hollywood, hippies or free speech. It was built on an excellent public educational system.  The ongoing achievement gap between white students and student of color is alarming.  The gap between us and the rest of the world, particularly in science and math is startling.  If tap shoes, a curtain or a violin can get us there, let’s do it.
