“Serena Williams was fined at least a record $82,500 for her U.S. Open tirade and could be suspended from that tournament if she has another “major offense” at any Grand Slam in the next two years, Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock told The Associated Press on Monday.
Babcock’s decision was to be formally released later Monday.
He said Williams faces a “probationary period” at Grand Slam tournaments in 2010 and 2011.
If she has another “major offense” at a major championship in that time, the fine would increase to $175,000 and she would be barred from the following U.S. Open.”
Now I’m not saying that Serena Williams is perfect. But you and I both know that she and her sister caught hell in the club houses and dressing rooms. We also know that when male tennis stars lose it, they are more often judged on the content of their rant.
Now she’s done gone and made them mad. There was always a certain lack of love. I’ve often thought that she and Venus were successful because they had each other. Compare the fates of Yannick Noah, MaliVai Washingtno, and Zina Garrison. Two years probation? That’s a set up if I ever heard of one. And you know that her colleagues will be provoking her every chance they get. And the officials will be looking.
Hang in there, girl.
