I’ve had several friends and friends of friends go into work in the morning and lose their jobs that same afternoon. There is an avalanche of people in their 50s and 60s being cut loose. A groundswell of Generation Y not able to get in the door at all.
Real wages have been stagnant since the 1980s. More people needing more than one job or one income to manage. More uncertainty and risk due primarily to health care and the recession.
